The #1 cause after any storage period. Old gas varnishes and clogs jets. The main jet, pilot jet, and needle all need to be clear. Carb cleaner spray often fixes it; full disassembly needed for severe cases.
ATV batteries drain during storage. A battery that sat all winter may not hold a charge. Try a jump or trickle charge — if it won’t hold, it needs replacing.
A carbon-fouled, oil-fouled, or just old spark plug is the cheapest and easiest fix. Pull it, inspect it, and replace it before digging deeper. They’re usually under $5.
Gas degrades in 30–60 days. Old fuel has poor combustion, causes varnish buildup, and won’t fire reliably. Drain the tank and carb bowl and add fresh fuel.
Many ATVs and dirt bikes have a manual petcock (fuel valve). If it’s on PRI (prime), OFF, or the filter is clogged, no fuel reaches the carb. Easy to overlook.
